If you're new to Fredericksburg, summer is a pretty great time to experience what this town is really about. The Hill Country slows down just enough to let you actually enjoy it, and between the wine trail, the local festivals, and a downtown that always has something going on, summer weekends fill up fast in the best way. Here are a few summer events in Fredericksburg worth adding to your plans this season.

Peach Season & the Gillespie County Peach Jamboree

Summer and peach season basically go hand in hand around Fredericksburg, and the Gillespie County Peach Jamboree is one of the biggest reasons why. Held in nearby Stonewall every June, this longtime local tradition brings together rodeos, live music, peach treats, and crowds excited to enjoy a good summer day of fun. You’ll see smiling faces walking around with peach cobbler in hand, live music playing in the background, and plenty of locals who make this part of their summer every single year.

Wine Road 290 All Summer Long

A Fredericksburg summer is incomplete without at least one trip down Wine Road 290. Becker Vineyards and Grape Creek Vineyards are two easy favorites, especially during the warmer months with outdoor tastings, wine menus, and chef-inspired small bites you’ll enjoy. You can settle in for a few hours, share a charcuterie board, and enjoy a long, unhurried afternoon surrounded by Hill Country views. And with The 1846 so close to it all, spontaneous winery weekends are always easy to make happen.

Marketplatz, the Farmers Market & 4th of July

The Fredericksburg Farmers Market runs regularly at Marketplatz through the summer, and it's a good way to get to know the neighborhood if you're still finding your footing in town. On the 4th of July, the energy downtown picks up considerably, with activities in Fredericksburg like the Kiddie Parade at Adelsverein Halle and fireworks in the evening at Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park. It's an easy, low-key way to spend the holiday without going far.
